Our Recommendations for Great Activities! From Harwich Haven, Your Vacation Home Rental on Cape Cod
Not sure what to DO? Here's what we recommend!
-
Island Excursions - Try a seal watch to Monomoy Island or combine it with a day at the island's beach. Express service to Nantucket also makes for a great adventure. It takes only 90 minutes to get there but reservations are necessary. Prices are approximately $35 and $60. Boats leave from Saquatucket Harbor.
Right on Division St; Right onto 28. On the Left about 3 miles, 508-430-7772 or 508-432-8999.
-
Bass River Kayaking/Canoe or Paddle Boat - If you like the outdoors and exercise, then kayaking Bass River is for you. There are 2 directions to paddle, 1 goes to the ocean while the other goes to Swan Lake. Enjoy the birds and the peace and quiet along the way. Remember to ask which way the tide is going so you know when you'll have to paddle hard. The cost is approximately $35 for the first hour and a half.
Right on Division St; Left onto 28; on the Right before the Route 134 intersection.
-
Whale Watch - A whale watch is fun for the whole family. They depart MacMillan Wharf in P'Town and there are several different trips and boats to go on. We like the Portuguese Princess. Prices vary, approximately $30, but there are coupons available. Don't forget your camera and sunscreen!
Route 6 East almost to the end, Go Left and follow signs to P'Town Center and parking, 800-442-3188.
-
Lighthouse Tours - For the lighthouse lover, there are several great ones to visit including Chatham, Nauset, Three Sisters, Truro and Provincetown has 3. You could also go west. The Truro Light is beautiful at sunset and there are great places to eat along the way!
Get the map by the garage door that has all the Cape Lighthouses marked on it.
-
King's Highway - Grab your bike and get on King's Highway. If you need a bike, head to the BikeDepot in West Harwich. There are bike trails all over the Cape just waiting for you.
There is a map of the bike trail by the garage door and a book of trails in the living room.
-
Harwich Beaches - Harwich has several great beaches. You can get a daily sticker for Red River Beach for $5 weekdays, $10 weekends or a weekly pass to all beaches for $50. We recommend Earle Road Beach where there are lifeguards, comfort stations, a wheelchair and the ice cream truck is perfect on hot days.
The Harwich beach map is by the garage door. Stickers are sold at Harwich Community Center, 508-432-7638
-
Herring Cove Beach - Beach lovers, this is it! Part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, there is a visitor center and is $10 to get in. The dunes are beautiful and the 3 mile hike to the lighthouse is great!
Route 6 East all the way to the end. Go Right at signs for Race Point. Follow signs to Herring Cove.
-
Chatham - A short drive, Chatham is a fun town to spend the day shopping and eating. You can go to the beach, put 25 cents in the binoculars to see the seals on nearby Monomoy Island, see the lighthouse and enjoy this quaint town on the elbow of Cape Cod. Parking is free and we highly recommend the Squire for lunch and the Impudent Oyster (make reservations) for dinner.
Right on Division St; Right on Route 28. Follow signs to Chatham Center, through rotary.
-
Provincetown - P'Town is great for dining out and shopping or seeing a show. We park in the East End Commercial Street Lot which is $8 and has bathrooms, but there are several lots. In late August, P'Town has Carnival and, if you do go, don't miss the Thursday night parade. We had great fun in 2003.
Route 6 East all the way to the end. Go Left and follow signs to P'Town Center and parking.
Still not sure? See other brochures in "Vol I: What to Do" in the living room under the phone.
